Many people secretly nurse the idea of writing their book but they never do it until the lose all passion.
All I can say is don’t procrastinate on your book because as my friend and CEO Business School Netherlands (BSN-Nigeria), Prof. Lere Baale, said here, writing a book is the best legacy.
It took me five years to write and publish my first major book Bridges to the Customer’s Heart in 2009 now sold all over the world. In recent times however, I’ve been able to write and publish a book in 60 days.
I believe anybody can do it. Amazon has made it so easy that anybody, no matter how young or old, can write a book and upload to Amazon virtually free.
So I was mildly surprised when a friend called me from Abuja recently and said, “I have 8 manuscripts and I’m tired, I don’t know what to do next.”
Unbelievable you’d say. It should not be. Dedicating time to bring at least two of those manuscripts to completion would have been a legacy by itself. Please don’t sit on your manuscripts.
The Top 7 Mistakes I Made Before I Got My First Book Published
If you’re in a similar situation or want to write and launch your book in 90 days or less, these are the 7 steps you should take:
- Jot down 7 ideas or book topics you would want to write on.
- Select one out of the 7 you know convincingly and can write on and come across as credible.
- Ask 10 – 20 trusted friends whether they would be willing to pay for the book if you wrote it.
- If the feedback is positive, conduct in-depth research and use tools like mind-maps to organize your ideas and develop an outline.
- Write your book based on the outline and don’t stop until your book is ready.
- Hand over your manuscript to a polished proofreader and editor to panel-beat it into shape.
- Publish and Launch your book using all the free tools available on Amazon.
CONGRATULATIONS YOU’RE A PUBLISHED AUTHOR.
This is where the real excitement begins. Put on your Marketing shoes and continue marketing your book until it enters the NY Times best-seller list.
REPEAT. Write your 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, etc. book.
