When choosing your book’s title, think series. Think of a title that can be extended into a series if you want to win BIG.
Think about series like:
– Harry Potter
– Guerilla Marketing
– Chicken Soup for the Soul
The Guerilla Marketing series initiated by the late Jay Conrad Levinson has sold between 20 and 21 million copies.
The Chicken Soup for the Soul book series by Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen has more than 275 titles and has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide.
When J. K. Rowling, English teacher and a single mother, wrote the first Harry Potter novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, she didn’t think of stardom. She just wanted a book that could earn her little income by the side.
All the major publishers (the big 6 at the time) rejected the manuscript but she pressed on until she found an “unknown publisher” that took a chance on her because he had nothing to lose.
As destiny would have it, JK Rowling structured the book in such a way she could do it in a series. And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
The Harry Potter series has sold more than 600 million copies, and the film series has grossed $7.7billion. That’s the power of series.
The Harry Potter Series:
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (or Sorcerer’s Stone)
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
So, keep pressing ahead, you never can tell what is in store for your idea and book.
Are you agonizing that your first book failed? Think about JK Rowling. Her first Harry Potter book was rejected by 12 major publishing houses, including Penguin and HarperCollins.
So, take every set back as a call for more action.
