This Is The One Thing You Must Do To Become A Millionaire In Dollars

Last Christmas I met a Security man working for one of the top banks who asked for my help. He wanted me to employ him. When I enquired how much was his take home pay he was forthright. Everything he said, was “about N20,000 per month.” That is about $56 per month. I told him he was lying and he immediately called his colleague to bear him witness. I was miffed, embarrassed, flabbergasted, taken aback, stunned, shocked, dazed, dumbfounded, surprised, amazed, and astonished at the same time. In the midst of my confusion I asked them why they didn’t resign if the pay was not enough. The response was quick, “oga we have no choice.” Really, is your fate in some other person’s hand?

I always begin my seminars with corporate executives with one question: “how many of you believe you can become a millionaire by the time you retire?” Usually, a deafening silence descends on the room. To break the silence I immediately follow up with a more dramatic question, “Who amongst you wants to become a millionaire?” Usually no hand goes up too. They just smile, too shy to admit they silently dream of banking a couple of millions before they retire.

A friend of mine makes more than N120mmillion annually, about $333,333. An average CEO in Nigeria makes in excess of N80million (about $ 222,222) from bonuses, profit share and performance incentives amongst others. But an average middle level employee earns about N18million (about $50,000) and takes home less than half of that after deductions – mortgage, car loan, etc. From my research, $50,000 is about the figure middle ranking Bloggers bank per month. The top guns like Michelle Schroeder-Gardner, Abby Lawson and Carol Tice bank triple that.

The only employee in corporate history that ever made over one billion dollars was the late Roberto Goizueta of Coca Cola, mainly from stock options. However, as an average employee, you’re not likely to get to that level as Nigerian companies hardly give stock options to lower ranking staff.

So this is one thing you can do to become a millionaire if you’re in paid employment: RESIGN YOUR EMPLOYMENT IMMEDIATELY AND GO SET UP A COMPANY.  IN SHORT, BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR like Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Nkechi Obi, Bukky George, Dr. Ernest  Azudialu Obiejesi, to mention a few.

Perish the thought of making millions while in paid employment: YOU CAN’T! You can rob your bank anyway, but you’ll end up in Kirikiri maximum prison. A friend of mine inflated contracts while in bank employment and ended up in CBN’s Black Book. Be warned.
