Paul you’re an idiot. That’s exactly what my physics teacher told me in the university when I flunked my first test. I’d registered for university physics when I’d not attended physics in secondary school. Expectedly I scored a perfect zero over 100 in the first test. And the language was Russian. It was tough but I proved the teacher wrong because I know you can’t fail if you don’t give up.

Watch out. Your friends are going to call you a complete idiot for venturing out, for flapping your wings, indeed for trying anything “new”, like online business, blogging, singing, dancing. They’d say, have you won the lottery? Are you crazy? Why are you behaving abnormal? Even your mind will tell you, new things like internet business, being a YouTuber, or drop shipper are too complicated, stay safe and be happy with the little money you’re making. They’ll ask you, don’t you know the internet is full of fraudsters, rouges and vagabonds?

Guess what? Over 99% would rather not make idiots of themselves and they’ll stay glued to where they are to prove they are not idiots. But the real idiots will go out there and make idiot of themselves by trying until they figure out how to make it work. Someone figured out how to make electricity work. Someone figured out how to lob rockets into space. Someone figured out how to send sound through wire. Marie Forleo says everything is figureoutable.

So, jump off your couch and agree you’re an idiot and go out and do something new. Anything. You want to learn how to speak well? Join Toastmasters and go and make a fool of yourself. You want to set up your YouTube channel, podcast, content marketing agency, internet business, say to yourself, yes I’m an idiot but I’m going to start learning how to do it anyway by registering in a class or course.

A young lad wanted to “make money to survive” while in school, so he started making and selling noodles in the school – to his classmates. Guess what? His classmates laughed at him. They called him an idiot. Cult members beat him up. But he persisted. He said, if making money makes me an idiot, so be it. Ten years later, he was a multimillionaire and the same classmates that beat him up and called him idiot crawled up to him, cap in hand, begging for job.

Check out Patricia (full name: Patricia Technologies Ltd.). The brain behind Patricia is Fejiro Hana Agbodje , a young lad, 28, from Rivers State, Nigeria. He was 22 when he set up Patricia. Ray Kroc was 52 when he co-founded McDonald’s and Col. Sanders was 65 when he figured out how to franchise KFC. So, age does not matter. The only thing that matters is being willing to make a fool or idiot of yourself.

Dr. Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi of Nestoil fame tells in his book, In My Father’s Footsteps, how he made an idiot of himself. It’s a book every man, woman and child should read. He’d pivoted from trading to finding gold in the oil and gas business, which he knew next to nothing. His only weapon was tenacity and the willingness to make an idiot of himself. He said on one occasion he was making a presentation to an executive team of an IOC (International Oil Company). Several executives were in attendance but as he was pitching, one by one, they started leaving the room. He recalled that at a point he was scribbling on the white board and by the time he turned around the room was empty. “It was the most embarrassing moment in my entire life”, he said with a sparkle in his eyes. The only reason he sits atop the Nestoil empire today is because he had the courage to make a fool of himself until he won.

As the world evolves so must you evolve along. Keep making an idiot of yourself by learning new skills, reinventing yourself and dreaming big. Accept you’re an idiot as other mock and laugh at you. Guess what? Only idiots change the world. Idiots like Steve Jobs, Ray Kroc, Col.
