Everybody deserves to win, but do you really deserve to win?

Gone are the days when you won because of your colour. In the days gone by, you won because of your tribe. Yes, in those days you won because of your religion.

Even today, you could still win because of your colour, tribe and religion but you will be joining a dying breed because the world will ignore and penalize you – for winning without merit.

Today you are competing against hundreds if not thousands for a millisecond of attention so you better be good. To win you must deserve it.

To win a percentage of the over $550million Amazon will splash on authors in 2023 your book must beat books by the likes of Nicolas Cole, Mark Manson, Malcolm Gladwell, and Chimamanda Adichie.

This is how Amazon communicates its KDP Select Fund and All Stars Bonus to authors, “Hello, The KDP Select Global Fund for July 2023 is $49.5 million and the All Stars bonus is $1.5 million. To see royalties earned from the fund and any bonus awarded, go to the Prior Months’ Royalties report.”

To become the most valuable player in the NBA and win endorsement by Nike you better outplay today’s Michael Jordans, Kareem Abdul-Jabbars, and Magic Johnsons all rolled into one.

To comprehend how Michael Jordan amassed $2Billion in networth this is how Forbes put it, “When Jordan signed his deal in 1984, not only did he agree to $500,000 per year, but also had royalties mentioned in his contract. Michael Jordan does not earn a fixed amount from Nike, but rather gets a 5% royalty on Jordan Brand earnings. This has helped him amass a net worth of $2 Billion (via Forbes).”

And to win the Grammys you must out-sing Beyoncé, Rihanna and Mariah Carey combined and that is not easy.

To be the beautiful bride in football, you must outplay Ronaldo, Messi and Mbappe combined and that calls for hard work.

To win in today’s hyper competitive world you must deserve to win and that requires being among the best of the best in whichever niche you decide to play.

Unlike yesterday where you could fake it until you make it, faking today is a passport, visa and Green Card to the ignored category.

When Bill Gates wanted to win, he practiced coding until his fingers went numb and he practiced some more. He was so “intense”, most of his friends abandoned him.

When Muhammed Ali of blessed memory desired to win he practiced until he mastered how to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.

When Michael Jordan wanted to win he out-practiced everyone, shooting sometimes 1,000 shots per day from the center court and that is how he became Air Jordan.

When Kobe Bryant wanted to win, he ripped off the practice secrets from Michael Jordan’s playbook and went on to become #1 for the LA Lakers and when he met his untimely death the whole world mourned.

When Nicolas Cole wanted to win as a professional writer, he wrote one article per day for 3 years in a row. He was just 17. Today he still writes a minimum of 10,000 words per day without padding and that’s how he became one of the “Category Pirates.”

The majority of people (man, woman, child) today, especially in corruption ridden kleptocracies all over Africa, underestimate the price they have to pay to win.

The leaders practice crony and tribal capitalism and the people being so brainwashed and malnourished, they can’t think straight, and they follow suit and that’s why kidnapping and voodooism is the order of the day.

Can you imagine using human intestine to do talisman so you mint money like Emiefele’s CBN?

As a serious person reading this piece you know the way to win is to out-practice, out-play, out-think, out-produce everyone else.

*To out-play all others requires ironclad discipline*.

Discipline means doing what you have promised yourself to do no matter the odds or obstacles on your path.

Discipline means if the law (the law you have enacted for yourself) says you must practice writing three hours per day, you practice writing 3 hours or more per day.

Discipline means if you have promised yourself to write 10 pages every day for 3 years nonstop you write 10 pages every day for three years straight.

That is how you become a JK Rowling with a massive networth of $1.2billion.

You practice not minding NEPA, PHCN, NIS, NPF, CBN, PDP, APC, LP, PEPT, PMB, GEJ, BAT, OBJ, IBB, NA, etc.

When you practice no matter what the obstacles the society throws on your path you will win. Not only that, you will win on your own terms.

To hapless Nigerians, winning today means JAPAing to Canada, UAE, Saudi Arabia, UK, USA and even Rwanda.

Our governors these days even JAPA to Rwanda to attend retreat on how to govern. Their way is to win by stealing, misappropriating, and misapplying public funds.

As my follower, reader, subscriber or friend, you know to win, you must be disciplined and out-practice everyone else in your niche. That’s the way of the noble.

More importantly, you must practice in public.

Practicing in public means coming out of your comfort zone and executing your play (in public) for the whole world to see.

When you practice in public (like writing or posting on Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Thread, YouTube, Telegram, TikTok, Quora, Gumroad, etc.), you subject your play to assessment, review, and judgement by the whole world and that’s how you grow.

Yes, winning is a game.

And you must be willing to play according to the rules.

No cheating.

When you do, if you’re lucky, the world will ignore you. If you’re not so lucky, the world will criticize you, castigate you, malign you, and sometimes outrightly condemn you. How dare you leave the pack? Ignore the world and keep practicing – in public.

The art of practicing in public is what toughens you, strengthens you and makes you the master of your universe. When you do that, you’ll win.

You see, sometimes it’s not the world, it’s your self-doubt that says you’re not good enough to write a best-selling book so don’t even dare try it. Sometimes it’s your imposter syndrome that shouts you down. It says, how dare you try that? Your mother and father never did that and survived, be contented with what you have, you’ll survive.

When that inner shrill voice tries to put you down, ask yourself, “Do you really deserve to win?”

Answer in the affirmative.
