I’m So Sad

I’m so sad.

Really sad.

I’m sad because the CBN has conspired against me.

From N560 to the Dollar in May, the Naira exchanged for N1,310 yesterday.

So, instead of N560,000 I have to cough out N1,310,000 for the books I bought for $1,000.

Corruption has brought the Naira to its knees.

The official headquarters for corruption is the CBN.

When CBN gives you $1m, you pay N790m, the “Official rate.”

You immediately call big brother and he gives you N1.36billion.

You split the N570m difference with CBN guys.

The politician also gets his cut.

By the time you finish greasing all the palms, you smile home with at N370m (plus/minus).

Who needs to work if you can click N370m in one transaction?

Pull it off 4 times in a year – one per quarter – and your bank account is N1.48billion fatter.

With N1.48b you can buy a house at Banana Island and have change to have a Porsche 911 Carrera T on your drive way.

Tell me what you cannot do in 8 years as part of emilokan?

You see, I’m sad because as I was growing up they told me hard work pays.

No one told me you can be rich and even wealthy without hard work.

One Naira then fetched USD 1.5349

If you came with one dollar the maximum you could get from me was 60 Kobo.

You see why I’m really sad?

I can’t buy books anymore because to get a $25 book, I’d have to cough out $56 inclusive of shipment and tax.

Who can buy one book for N73,260?
