Bridges to the Customer’s Heart Became a Bestseller

Bridges is my second book and became an instant best-seller in Nigeria.

Both the first (2009) and second (2011) editions were published by Author House, USA.

Bridges catalogued Nigeria’s customer service woes in all its ugliness.

I named government agencies shortchanging the people:
(PHCN – before NEPA – WAEC, JAMB, CAC, etc.).

This is how it happened and why I wrote the book.

In the 80s and 90s, “customer service” was the rage.

The Japanese were snatching markets in major industries from the Americans and Europeans.

The Americans fought back with Malcolm Baldridge Quality Awards.

In 1982 Tom Peters and Robert Waterman Jr. released In Search of Excellence.

In Search was quickly followed by Passion for Excellence and Thriving on Chaos.

The books set the world on fire.

I became a convert.

At the time Tom wrote In Search, he was a staff of McKinsey.

McKinsey formulated the 7-S Framework (The Happy Atom).

Not to be outdone, PwC, BCG, Accenture jumped into the fray with their frameworks.

I started teaching “Service Excellence”, Organized workshops and executive roundtables.

Within a few years, I became a customer service guru.

My students “pleaded” I write a book and ignite a revolution.

The revolution didn’t take off but I wrote Bridges to the Customer’s Heart.

I was working full time, so it took more than five years to complete.

But I was scared I didn’t belong to McKinsey, Accenture, BCG.

I didn’t believe in myself.

Who needed another book on customer service?

Who even knows you?

The doubting voices kept humming.

Imposter syndrome fueled procrastination which fueled perfectionism.

So, I left the manuscript in my drawer for at least three years.

A trip to Canada and a meeting with Author House book acquisition expert saved the day.

Bridges took me to places I never could imagine when I started writing it.

Founders and C-Suite executives threw their doors open.

Private jets and helicopters were dispatched to pick “the author” and “motivational speaker”.

I spoke with founders on golf courses and keynoted retreats.

Do you have a passion for something?

Write about it. Today. Don’t wait.

If we haven’t met, I’ve helped 750+ professionals write books and build businesses online.

Now I work with founders and C-Suite executives to tell the world their stories.

It’s difficult to catalogue what Bridges has done to elevate my career and status.

The power of a book is immeasurable.

Benji (now my mentor) bought Bridges for all his friends in Ikeja Golf Club.

Then embarked on a mission to track me down.

Hear Benji: “I stumbled on Bridges to the Customer’s Heart at Lagos Country Club in Ikeja

and after going through the book I was convinced that it was one of the best business books

from a Nigerian author that I had read. All the anecdotes were on Nigerian companies and

circumstances. I had read quite some business books but this book struck home.

I decided to seek out the author and Paul Uduk became a friend”.

The best thing you can do for your career, confidence and personal brand is to write a book.

Nothing else compares. The world’s biggest individual brands have books:

Richard Branson. Gary Vee. Alex Hormozi. Peter Diamandis, Tony Robbins. Brendon Burchard. Russell Brunson.

Even as the richest man in the world, Bill Gates wrote “The Road Ahead” (1995) and

“Business at the Speed of Thought” (1999) to spread his teachable point of view (TPOV).

Do you want to amplify your brand? Write a book.
This is what RDJ said about me and Bridges:
‘’Paul Uduk in my opinion, is one of Nigeria’s most authentic experiential writers –
tackling such a major business problem with a rare combination of tact, humour and professionalism.
Bridges to the Customer’s Heart helps readers shift their focus from what can’t be done to what can be done.
It reminds us of our potential as opposed to our limitations. I recommend it unreservedly.’’
