This is the behind-the-scenes story how Book Writing Clinic (BWC) became a movement.

BWC started as a joke.

A spur of the moment decision.
Just impulse.

Zero grand vision
No brainstorming
Nil strategic planning.

What triggered BWC was Bridges to the Customer’s Heart.

Bridges was well received and before I knew it testimonials and praises poured in.

Chioma Nwagboso, then of The World Bank Group wrote, ‘’It has to be one of the best books I have read and overall
the most succinct on customer service in Nigeria.’’

Richmond Dayo Johnson, the late founder of Richmond Johnson Academy, wrote of me, ‘’Paul Uduk in my opinion, is one of Nigeria’s most authentic experiential writers”.

Bridges had stayed in my drawer for close to five years and I didn’t know what to do with it.

Luckily I travelled to Canada in 2008 to attend Toastmasters International
Convention and that’s how I met Author House, my publishers.

Bridges went on to sell over 5,000 copies.

One day in 2015, it occurred to me that since I’d written a book,
maybe some of my friends would like to know how I did it.

On 15 January, I sent out a WhatsApp message to as many people on my list as I could.

I was scared to death how people would react – that was my first time of ‘selling’ on WhatsApp.

But lo behold, on 31 January 2015, three people showed up:
Kayode T. Oluwasegun-Ojo (ex MD/CE of NAHCO)
Udeme Etuk (ex GM HR of International Distilleries Ltd)
Olatunde Oladiti (a solopreneur house builder)

That’s how BWC started.

As a side note, I’d built relationship with these gentlemen over the years prior.

Today  BWC is a 450+ members strong community with alumni in 6 countries. (Nigeria, Canada Ghana, UK, USA, Sweden).

Along the way testimonials from BWC alumni members started coming in.

Sylvia Etim wrote, “I am blessed to be connected to BWC. I am so elated. Anyone who wants to make it in life needs to attend BWC”.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth: More than 80% of aspiring authors never write a word.

Joseph Epstein, author and book critic, documented this. Only 15% who want to write a book actually begin drafting. Of those who start? 97% never finish their manuscripts.

The culprits:

Steven Pressfield calls this “resistance.” I call it predictable.

Here’s what baffles me:

To become a brain surgeon, you study under professors for years.

To practice accountancy, you earn a BSc after 4 years of training.

To qualify as a nurse, you attend nursing school for two years just to learn injections.

So why do people think they can become authors without training on how to write?

The real reason hundreds fail isn’t lack of ideas. It’s believing you can just wake up and write without education on the craft.

What would change if you stopped winging it and started learning the craft intentionally?

That regret is not only a personal misfortune but a national tragedy.

Hear me out.

I’m standing at the lobby of the NIM (Nigerian Institute of Management).

Staring down at me are the names of past presidents of NIM.

Established in 1959, the list is carved in marble.

The list reads like ‘who is who’.

Some of Nigeria’s finest executives.

62 of them.

Randomly selected:

1. Prof. Olukunle Iyanda
2. Dr. Christopher Abebe
3. Mrs. Margaret Adeleke
4. Dr. Michael Omolayole
5. Dr. Christopher Kolade
6. Dr. Michael Olawale Cole
7. Major-Gen. Abdullahi Muraina

Sadly less than 5 (out of 62) have written a book on management.

Their knowledge, wisdom, experience, all gone.

Most probably planned to write “someday.”

After retirement.
After the next phase.
After things slow down.

They underestimate one thing:
Memory fades.
Urgency disappears.
Energy shifts.

The best time to document experience is while it’s still alive.

Delay doesn’t improve clarity.

It erodes it.

This applies not only to past presidents of NIM, but every executive.

Delay in documenting your wisdom results in both personal and national regret.

Compare NIM with IIM (Indian Institute of Management).

NIM (established in 1959) is 2 years older than IIM (Indian Institute of Management).

But the two have almost nothing in common apart from being institutes of management.

IIM is decentralized, with 21 autonomous public business schools spread all over India.

Each has a rigorous academic curriculum.

And their books are some of the best in the world.

Books by IIM, Ahmedabad, include the “IIMA Exclusive” series published with Penguin Random House.

Key titles: Day to Day Economics, Managers who make a difference, Being Ethical, Speak with Impact, The Persuasive Manager.

I’ve searched far and wide for NIM books but yet to find any.

People see a book like Atomic Habits (25m+ copies sold) and they go, huh, how did he do it?

Or $100M Money Models with 3m copies sold within 72 hours and they say, I can never do that!

As a new writer, you shouldn’t compare yourself to best-selling authors.

That would be like a start-up comparing itself to a behemoth like Amazon or Wal-Mart.

You can aspire to be a best-selling author (someday) but don’t compare yourself to James Clear or Alex Hormozi (from day one).

Those experts have perfected their craft.

Besides, you don’t know where they are coming from

For instance, Alex Hormozi’s first book, Gym Launch, flopped.

So, here are 4 ways to get started and become a published author, fast:

1.     Repurpose What You’ve Written Before
This is the easiest way to become an author.

You’ve written something before.
Repurpose it into a book.
It must be a subject you know inside out.
That’s exactly how I wrote my first book.
(Credit Appraisal & Procedure Handbook).

I repurposed a credit memo I wrote into a credit booklet.
It’s a very ‘niche’ book – with a clear audience and purpose.

That first flimsy 58-page booklet gave me the confidence to write the 2nd and the 3rd and the 8th.

You have to start somewhere.

2. Take an existing topic and flip it on its head

This was the approach James Clear adopted.
Before Atomic Habits, the dominant book on habits was 7 habits.
7 Habits was broad and generic.
James Clear’s Atomic Habits went the opposite direction.
Focused and specific.
What to do day-by-day to pin down habits (Atomic).
Both books have sold over 50 million copies combined.

3. Write on a popular topic with your own story

No topic in the world is more popular than ‘how to be rich’.

How to be rich. How to be popular. How to make money.
Any book in this genre is bound to be an instant winner.

Books in this genre have a long history:

• (1859) Self-Help by Samuel Smiles

• (1890) Acres of Diamond by Russell Conwell

• (1926) The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason

• (1936) How to Make Friends and Influence People

• (1937) Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

• (1965) How to be Rich J. Paul Getty

Self-help is the most crowded genre in the book industry.

But that fact did not stop Robert Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter.

Their 1997 book, Rich Dad Poor Dad, became a run-away best-seller.

(with 40m+ copies sold worldwide).

4. Write on a niche topic that you’ve mastered (Expertise)

The top experts here are Stephen Pressfield. Russell Brunson. Daniel Priestly.
In recent years Daniel Priestley has emerged a top voice in the area.

All his books are super niche:

• 24 Assets

• Oversubscribed

• Scorecard Marketing

• Key Person of Influence

• Lifestyle Business Playbook

Alex Hormozi, the current Guinness World Record holder, for the fastest selling non-fiction book is in a class of his own.

His books have sold 5m copies combined:

• $100M OFFERS

• $100M LEADS

• $100M MONEY MODELS

All are super niche.

So, get started today.

Stop scratching your head waiting for lightning to strike.

In a world of 8.3 billion people driven by AI, how do you play to win long term?

Today it’s common to see people celebrating 10K, 50K, 100K followers on SM platforms: LN, YT, X, etc.

Two of my friends celebrated their 11K and 30K followers last week on LinkedIn.

It was quite a spectacle and I couldn’t be happier for them.

Then I found out Steven Bartlett, one of the most globally recognized SM brands has 30.73million followers across social media.

For context, the population of Texas is 31.7million and New York’s is 20million.

For our purposes, followers and subscribers mean one and the same thing.

Now, Steven Bartlett is known for a few things and one is his The Diary Of A CEO YouTube Channel.

He’s been doing social media since age 17, and is now 33.

His current networth is about $100m but that’s not the point.

The important thing is that Steven Bartlett in ‘known for something’.

So, the question is, what are you known for?

Writing scroll-stopping posts on LinkedIn, creating funny videos on TT and FB will not cut it.

Of course they can make a few people laugh and make you a local celebrity but no further.

To win long term, you have to:
↳ Create intellectual property (IP)
↳ Develop Frameworks (part of IP)
↳ Master one-to-many strategies
↳ Acquire expertise in content funnel

As a professional the place to start is your IP.

And the easiest IP to create is a book.

And thanks to AI, you can write a book in less than seven days.

A book has no equal.
It puts you miles ahead of your peers and rivals.

With a book you can explain your frameworks and own an estate in someone’s mind.

Here are examples:
